Although Russia already has the best fighter-interceptor of the world, the MiG-31, has embarked on developing an even better device MiG-41 will be called, as announced by a member of the Defense Committee of the lower house Russian Parliament, Alexander Tarnáyev, quoted by Interfax.

"The country's leadership has decided to include a development project interceptor advanced high altitude in the new weapons program that began in 2020. The device will be developed from the fighter-interceptor MiG-31 aircraft that ahead of its time in decades. Do not rule out that the development of new aircraft can begin before 2020, because it is very necessary for our Armed Forces, "he said.

The interceptor supersonic two-seater wide range MiG-31 was developed by OKB-155 (now the MiG corporation) in the 70 interceptor was the first Soviet plane in addition to the fourth generation and the first fighter aircraft in the world equipped with AESA radar. Therefore, the large fleet of these aircraft inherited from the USSR has undergone an extensive renovation program and is focused on increasing the scope of locating and destroying targets at distances up to 320 and 280 kilometers respectively.

The characteristics of the MiG-31 has not yet been surpassed by any aircraft in its class. Designed to intercept enemy aircraft plus cruise missiles at all altitudes and speeds as well as low-orbiting satellites, this aircraft is capable of automatically track up to 24 targets and attack 8 of them. Four planes of this type are able to track and protect airspace up to 800 kilometers.
The aircraft is able to guide whites to other fighters and receive signals and information to track aircraft early warning A-50.

Despite these characteristics as being one of the planes fastest fighter in the world, the Mikoyan MiG-31 (Foxhound, according to the nomenclature NATO) stopped making in 1994, amid the chaos and the difficult economic situation post-Soviet era.

As reported earlier this year the respected Russian business daily "Vedomosti" referring to the director general of the Mikoyan corporation Sergei Korotkov, MiG is working on a new fighter aircraft to replace the veteran and reliable aircraft.
